February 5, 2019 marks the 430th anniversary of the establishment of the patriarchate in Russia. On this day in 1589, Metropolitan Job became the first patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’, and the Russian Orthodox Church itself gained independence by withdrawing from submission to the See of Constantinople. The Presidential Library ‘s portal features a variety of digital copies of rare publications on the history of the patriarchate in our country.

February 7, 2019 marks 326 years since the birth of Empress Anna Ioannovna (1693-1740). The Presidential Library’s portal features extensive collection The House of Romanov. Zemsky Sobor of 1613, one of the parts of which is dedicated to Tsarina Anna Ioannovna, who ruled from 1730 to 1740.

The Presidential Library to pay tribute to Pushkin

On February 8, 2019 at 10:00 the Presidential Library will host the annual conference and webinar "Alexander Pushkin’s Memorial Day". Students and university professors, teachers and pupils of St. Petersburg schools, employees of the National Pushkin Museum will traditionally attend the event. Other institutions of culture and education of the regions of the Russian Federation will be also connected to event via video-conferencing mode.

History and Culture: Staraya Ladoga Museum-Reserve presents “A Casket of District Stories” exhibition

On February 15, 2019 the Staraya Ladoga Museum-Reserve (Leningrad Region) is launching an exhibition “A Casket of District Stories”, which is a joint project of the Novaya Ladoga Regional Historical Museum and the Staraya Ladoga Museum-Reserve. The exhibition will acquaint visitors with fates and everyday life of some women from Ladoga, who promoted culture and education. Among the characters of the exhibition are: M. I. Spirova, L. V. Lesnaya (Geshtovt), Ye. V. Andreyeva, P. M. Maslovskaya and other teachers.

Marking the 1030th anniversary of the Christianization of Rus’”, which was opened in the historic building of the Synod from July 27 to September 20, 2018.

January 12, 1772 Russian statesman, reformer, legislator Mikhail Speransky was born. The son of a priest in one of the rural parishes of Vladimir Province, through his abilities, deep moral roots, and hard work, was drawn by Emperor Alexander I to reform Russian law. In the collections of the Presidential Library “Mikhail Speransky (1772–1839)” he is represented as the author of the plan of liberal transformations, the initiator of the creation of the State Council and the head of the codification of the basic state laws of the Russian Empire.

The Izmailovo Exhibition Hall, Moscow State Integrated Museum-Reserve presents “Moscow in Artworks” – a display of cityscapes of Moscow by 4 artists: Eugeny Romashko, Andrey Dubov, Vera Lagutenkova and Lyudmila Charskaya. The editorial office of tass.ru website and TASS Design Studio have teamed up with the State Tretyakov Gallery to launch a special project “Not Everyone will be Taken into the Future”. It is dedicated to the first large-scale retrospective exhibition of Ilya and Emilia Kabakov’s works held in Moscow. The highlight of the special project is a 360° video tour around the exhibition, led by Zelfira Tregulova, Director General of the Tretyakov Gallery. The project also features materials that were not included in Anton Zhelnov’s film-interview “Poor People. The Kabakovs”. They were provided to TASS by the Garage Museum.
