The virtual Presidential Library illustrates church relics and their custodians

On the eve of the most joyful and most revered holiday in the Orthodox world of the Easter Sunday, celebrated on April 19, 2020, the Presidential Library invites you to have a virtual tour of the exhibition Keeping the Orthodox Faith: the History of Church Museums. Marking the 1030th anniversary of Christianization of Rus’, provided in the historic building of the Synod on Senate Square, 3 in 2018.

Marking the 75th Anniversary of the Great Victory: Russian State Library to reconstruct the war-time reading hall

The Russian State Library is developing three new projects marking the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory. One is a reconstruction of a fragment of the war-time reading hall. "The Great Patriotic War Library" project will feature the atmosphere of wartime in the reading room. To arrange the new exposition, the Russian State Library and the Victory Museum have already digitized more than 500 documents - leaflets, books, brochures, posters, and other materials.

The "Discover Moscow" portal, together with the #Moskvastoboy project of the Moscow Tourism Committee, launched two new online quests for Moscow residents. By answering questions, users will learn interesting facts about the widening of Tverskaya Street, the famous moving of houses along with residents, as well as the history of the Kitay-Gorod Wall.

May 3, 2020 marks the 706th anniversary of the birth of the great monk-ascetic of the Russian land, St. Sergius of Radonezh, one of the most revered saints. The Presidential Library’s portal features the collection "Sergius of Radonezh (about 1314–1392)", which contains rare editions, including annals of the life and deeds of the hieromonk, images of the saint and monuments to him, materials dedicated to the Trinity Sergius Lavra and much more.

The circle of post-avant-garde artists of the 1920–1960s”, was opened in the Gallery of Modern Art of the National Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan (Kazan). January 29, 2020, marks the 160th anniversary of Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, one of the most popular Russian writers. The specialists of the Presidential Library prepared a new large collection “Anton Chekhov (1860–1904)”, which features different aspects of the writer’s personality, life, and work. The collection includes digital copies of rare books, periodicals and archival documents, postcards, and photographs, as well as the texts of his oeuvres, articles, and letters.

World History and Culture: "Following the Roads of Jesus Christ" photo exhibition from the collection of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society opened in Saint-Petersburg

"Following the Roads of Jesus Christ" photo exhibition was opened in the State Museum of the History of Religion (Saint-Petersburg). The exhibition features genuine photographs of 1850-1900 from the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society museum's collection. It also showcases pilgrimage souvenirs of the late XIX - early XXI centuries, as well as historical maps of the Holy Land.

Среди экспонатов – книги об истории и основах православия, православных праздниках, о русском христианском искусстве, о жизни и подвигах православных святых, а также литература духовно-просветительской направленности для детей и старинные церковные книги из фондов РЦНК и Благовещенского прихода Русской православной церкви Южноамериканской и Аргентинской епархии.

An exhibition of the works of the remarkable Russian and Soviet painter, Honored Artist of the RSFSR Ivan Vladimirov, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the artist, was opened in the Museum of Political History of Russia (Saint Petersburg). The exhibition features about 30 artworks by Vladimirov from the collection of the Museum, including ten paintings and graphics.

Little-known Chekhov presented in the Penza Regional Center of the Presidential Library

On January 17, 2020 specialists of the Penza Regional Center of the Presidential Library held a practice-oriented lesson for senior pupils at school № 56, dedicated to Chekhov’s 160th anniversary. The children were told little-known facts about the writer’s biography using a variety of photographs (for example, photographs by Anton Chekhov and Leo Tolstoy or views of Taganrog streets of Chekhov’s times) posted on the Presidential Library’s portal.

The first Russian Naval Regulations approved 300 years ago

In 2020, 300 years have passed since the first Russian Naval Regulations, developed with the active participation of Peter the Great, was adopted on January 24, 1720. The Presidential Library’s portal features an electronic copy of the Naval Regulations of 1853, which provisions are based on the main principles of the organization of the Russian state fleet laid down by the autocrat.
