Скобелевский комитет помощи раненым - благотворительная организация, учреждённая 26 ноября 1904 г. Первоначальное название - «Комитет имени генерал-адъютанта М. Д. Скобелева для выдачи пособий потерявшим на войне способность к труду воинам». Комитет был создан по инициативе сестры генерала Скобелева княгини Надежды Дмитриевны Белосельской-Белозерской. Организация занималась сбором пожертвований для обеспечения пособиями и пенсиями раненых и больных воинов. В числе почетных членов комитета были Д. А. Милютин, П. А. Столыпин, В. Б. Фредерикс, В. Н. Коковцев, В. А. Сухомлинов, А. А. Поливанов и др. Во время Первой Мировой войны в составе Комитета был создан Военно-кинематографический отдел, который занимался производством документальных и игровых кинематографических лент военно-образовательного и воспитательного содержания. В апреле 1918 г. имущество и капиталы комитета были национализированы.

Памятник генералу М. Д. Скобелеву был открыт 24 июня 1912 г. на месте нынешнего памятника Юрию Долгорукому на Тверской площади, которая вместе с установкой монумента получила название «Скобелевская площадь». 1 мая 1918 г. памятник был снесён
