The 33rd Scientific Conference “Novgorod and Novgorod Land. History and Archaeology” is opening on January 22, 2019 in the Lecture Hall of the Museum of Fine Arts in Veliky Novgorod. This year the conference is marking the 90th anniversary of the birth of academician Valentin Yanin. The name of the renowned scientist is forever associated with Novgorod archaeology, which is famous for the exceptional discoveries.

Three exhibitions dedicated to the 75th anniversary of complete lifting of the Nazi siege of Leningrad will be staged on January 23, 2019 in the Main Building of the National Library of Russia (St. Petersburg).

The exhibition “Solomon Yudovin. Graphic Works from the Besieged Leningrad” from the collection of Evgeny Gerasimov and the Russian Museum is opening on January 24, 2019 in the Stroganov Palace. It is timed to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the lifting of the siege of Leningrad. The artist witnessed and experienced the siege, one of the most tragic events of World War II, firsthand. The exhibition showcases about 150 works by the artist, most of which are on display for the first time.

January 18, 2019 the Penza Regional Center of the Presidential Library hosted the opening of the Space of Play exhibition was held, dedicated to the Year of Theater in Russia and the 145th anniversary of the birth of theater director V. E. Meyerhold.

January 20 – 29, 2019 the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Astana is holding the online project “Let’s Read the Siege Book”. It has been launched to mark the 75th anniversary of complete lifting of the Nazi siege of Leningrad, the centenary of Daniil Granin’s birth and the Year of Book in the CIS states.

The exhibition “Russian Geniuses Abroad. Return of the Names” will be staged on January 25, 2019 in the F. A. Kovalenko Krasnodar Territory Art Museum. The exposition showcases graphic works by ten great artists from Russia, who are famous all over the world.

The Cleveland Museum of Art (the USA) has made high-resolution digital images and collections freely available by means of Internet.

Kemerovo Regional Library for Children and Young Adults is holding the exhibition “The Wonderland of Theatre”, which is timed to coincide with the Year of Theatre in Russia. The display will be open through February 28, 2019.

From February 8 through February 21, 2019 the Institute of Russian Literature Literary Museum (The Pushkin House) of the Russian Academy of Sciences is holding a temporary exhibition “Pushkin’s Last Minutes”, which is timed to poet’s 182nd anniversary of death. It continues the tradition of mini exhibitions staged ahead of Pushkin’s commemorative dates, which was established several years ago. They give visitors a unique chance to discover original documents, which leave the archival repository for a short time.

A series of trials in the 20th century began for our country in the Far East, when Japan blocked Port Arthur - the main Russian naval base in the Pacific Ocean, and the military failures of the Russian army and navy, the largest of which were the Mukden battle and the Tsushima naval battle, became one of the reasons for the revolution of 1905-1907.

The Alexander Pushkin State Historical and Literary Estate Museum in Vyazyomy (Moscow Region) presents an exhibition “The Worship of Alexander Pushkin. “Pushkiniana” by Valery Pokatov”.

February 7, 2019 the Days of Russian Education and Science launched at the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Astana.

A new exhibition “Nicholas I” will be staged on February 13, 2019 in St. Michael’s Castle (The State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg).

On February 15, 2019 the Staraya Ladoga Museum-Reserve (Leningrad Region) is launching an exhibition “A Casket of District Stories”, which is a joint project of the Novaya Ladoga Regional Historical Museum and the Staraya Ladoga Museum-Reserve. The exhibition will acquaint visitors with fates and everyday life of some women from Ladoga, who promoted culture and education. Among the characters of the exhibition are: M. I. Spirova, L. V. Lesnaya (Geshtovt), Ye. V. Andreyeva, P. M. Maslovskaya and other teachers.

February 13, 2019 marks the 235th anniversary of the birth of Nikolay Ivanovich Gnedich (1784–1833) - a poet and prose writer who left us his translation of the Iliad worthy of the original. The Presidential Library’s materials present works of Gnedich, his participation in the literary process of his time, his relationship with fellow pen. 

The 27th Havana International Book Fair, which is one of the key events in the cultural life of Cuba, is traditionally held from February 7 to February 17, 2019 in the sixteenth century Spanish fortress - Fortaleza San Carlos de La Cabaña, which overlooks the Havana bay. The 10-day event brings together a large number of book lovers.

In March 2019, the Republic of Crimea celebrates the fifth anniversary of the reunification of Crimea and Russia. In the course of the celebration of this date, solemn events are planned throughout the region.

The Presidential Library hosted the annual conference and webinar "Alexander Pushkin’s Memorial Day". The event was attended by employees of the National Pushkin Museum, students of universities in St. Petersburg, teachers and pupils of the senior classes of city schools, as well as via video-conferencing mode - employees and guests of the libraries of Ulyanovsk, Surgut, Simferopol, Tomsk, Yuzh- Sakhalinsk and many other cities of Russia.

The concert of the “Music of Russian Statehood” Musical and Educational Project highlighting the epoch of tsar and reformer Alexander II will be held on October 10, 2018, at 7 p.m. in the Presidential Library (Senate Square, 3).

The exhibition “The Library as a Mirror of the Bestuzhev Courses: 140th Anniversary of Foundation of the Higher Women's (Bestuzhev) Courses” is open until November 14, 2018, Senate Square, 3. Residents and guests of St. Petersburg have a chance to see rare publications, photographs, documents, and other rarities, which cast light on the history of Russia’s first “women's university”. The exhibition is a joint project of the Presidential Library and St. Petersburg State University.   

The 668th anniversary of the birth of the legendary commander, Grand Prince of Moscow and Vladimir, Saint Dmitry Donskoy will be celebrated on October 12, 2018.

In the first week of October, the Russian language courses started at the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Ljubljana.

The A. S. Popov Central Museum of Communications Scientific and Technical Library (St. Petersburg) is running the exhibition “The Wonderful World of Philately”. It marks the 135th anniversary of the philatelic movement in Russia, which was founded on October 10, 1883. The exhibition showcases publications, which shed light on the history of the philatelic movement in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities of Russia, and activities of philatelic societies: publication of periodicals, organization of exhibitions, youth hobby groups.
