The 33rd Scientific Conference “Novgorod and Novgorod Land. History and Archaeology” is opening on January 22, 2019 in the Lecture Hall of the Museum of Fine Arts in Veliky Novgorod. This year the conference is marking the 90th anniversary of the birth of academician Valentin Yanin. The name of the renowned scientist is forever associated with Novgorod archaeology, which is famous for the exceptional discoveries.

The exhibition “Solomon Yudovin. Graphic Works from the Besieged Leningrad” from the collection of Evgeny Gerasimov and the Russian Museum is opening on January 24, 2019 in the Stroganov Palace. It is timed to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the lifting of the siege of Leningrad. The artist witnessed and experienced the siege, one of the most tragic events of World War II, firsthand. The exhibition showcases about 150 works by the artist, most of which are on display for the first time.

Memory of Russia: Pushkin House Museum in St. Petersburg mounts “Pushkin’s Last Minutes” exhibition

From February 8 through February 21, 2019 the Institute of Russian Literature Literary Museum (The Pushkin House) of the Russian Academy of Sciences is holding a temporary exhibition “Pushkin’s Last Minutes”, which is timed to poet’s 182nd anniversary of death. It continues the tradition of mini exhibitions staged ahead of Pushkin’s commemorative dates, which was established several years ago. They give visitors a unique chance to discover original documents, which leave the archival repository for a short time.

On February 15, 2019 the Staraya Ladoga Museum-Reserve (Leningrad Region) is launching an exhibition “A Casket of District Stories”, which is a joint project of the Novaya Ladoga Regional Historical Museum and the Staraya Ladoga Museum-Reserve. The exhibition will acquaint visitors with fates and everyday life of some women from Ladoga, who promoted culture and education. Among the characters of the exhibition are: M. I. Spirova, L. V. Lesnaya (Geshtovt), Ye. V. Andreyeva, P. M. Maslovskaya and other teachers.

The Presidential Library hosted the annual conference and webinar "Alexander Pushkin’s Memorial Day". The event was attended by employees of the National Pushkin Museum, students of universities in St. Petersburg, teachers and pupils of the senior classes of city schools, as well as via video-conferencing mode - employees and guests of the libraries of Ulyanovsk, Surgut, Simferopol, Tomsk, Yuzh- Sakhalinsk and many other cities of Russia.

The exhibition “The Library as a Mirror of the Bestuzhev Courses: 140th Anniversary of Foundation of the Higher Women's (Bestuzhev) Courses” is open until November 14, 2018, Senate Square, 3. Residents and guests of St. Petersburg have a chance to see rare publications, photographs, documents, and other rarities, which cast light on the history of Russia’s first “women's university”. The exhibition is a joint project of the Presidential Library and St. Petersburg State University.

It marks the 135th anniversary of the philatelic movement in Russia, which was founded on October 10, 1883. The exhibition showcases publications, which shed light on the history of the philatelic movement in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities of Russia, and activities of philatelic societies: publication of periodicals, organization of exhibitions, youth hobby groups.
