A series of trials in the 20th century began for our country in the Far East, when Japan blocked Port Arthur - the main Russian naval base in the Pacific Ocean, and the military failures of the Russian army and navy, the largest of which were the Mukden battle and the Tsushima naval battle, became one of the reasons for the revolution of 1905-1907.

On February 8, 2019 the Azov History, Archaeology and Paleontology Museum-Reserve (Rostov Region) is mounting an exhibition, which acquaints visitors with the culture, religious beliefs and main activities of the Hellenes in Bosporus through the images of painted ceramics dating from around VIII-III cc. BC. It is opening a series of exhibitions, which will spotlight the Kingdom of the Bosporus. The exhibition is part of the “Golden Ring of the Bosporan Kingdom” tourism program.

February 13, 2019 marks the 235th anniversary of the birth of Nikolay Ivanovich Gnedich (1784–1833) - a poet and prose writer who left us his translation of the Iliad worthy of the original. The Presidential Library’s materials present works of Gnedich, his participation in the literary process of his time, his relationship with fellow pen. 

The Russian Cultural and Information Center in Sofia hosted a round table “Russian Diplomatic Services marking the Day of Diplomatic Worker in Bulgaria. The first RussianСonsul Alexander Davydov”, which has been organized by the Russian Sofia Club with the support of the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo in the Republic of Bulgaria.

The 27th Havana International Book Fair, which is one of the key events in the cultural life of Cuba, is traditionally held from February 7 to February 17, 2019 in the sixteenth century Spanish fortress - Fortaleza San Carlos de La Cabaña, which overlooks the Havana bay. The Presidential Library hosted the annual conference and webinar "Alexander Pushkin’s Memorial Day". On February 15, 2019 the Victory Museum in Moscow is mounting an updated exposition “Faithful to Heroic Traditions”. This exhibition project is dedicated to Soviet servicemen, who performed their military duty in the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan in 1979–1989.

Yandex is beta testing the ratings of the most popular websites in Russia known as “Top websites”. Beta test is to be completed by the end of the year. On completion of the testing Yandex will release the ratings of 10,000 most popular websites in Russia.

The State Russian Museum has teamed up with the Museum of Modern Art in New York and launched a virtual project “Expressionism in Russian Art” available via Artefact app. Users will have a chance to join the augmented reality tour around the exhibition and use the audio guide – the recorded narration of “Masterskaya” theatre actors. “Expressionism in Russian Art” exhibition will be open until November 19, 2018.

The exhibition “The Library as a Mirror of the Bestuzhev Courses: 140th Anniversary of Foundation of the Higher Women's (Bestuzhev) Courses” is open until November 14, 2018, Senate Square, 3. Residents and guests of St. Petersburg have a chance to see rare publications, photographs, documents, and other rarities, which cast light on the history of Russia’s first “women's university”. The exhibition is a joint project of the Presidential Library and St. Petersburg State University.   

Joint events of the Presidential Library and the German public ahead of the Frankfurt Book Fair have become a tradition. More and more opportunities for the cultural cooperation with Russia are being offered by the Presidential Library to its German partners.
